📰 Tom's Sunday Summary - 10th March 2024

Hey , welcome back to
The Sunday Summary
, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.
💂🏻♀️🇬🇧 A London update:I’m back in the UK! I finished up my travels in the wonderful city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Visiting the Petronas Towers amongst other marvels! I also made it home safe after flying home from the same airport, same flight carrier, 10 years to the date of the MH370 disappearance 😳. Final stat, I visited 5 countries in 9 weeks.
🌴 Final moments of thought and reflection:I want to travel moreLast week I spoke of the idea that I'm probably not a fan of long term travel (there's only so many of the same conversations you can have with young 20 somethings on a shoestring budget in hostels). But that's not to put off the idea of semi regular travel.I've had that potent dose of "wow, stuff at home feels different", where your everyday life seems novel again. Even just driving my taxi around my hometown is an incredibly enriching experience. I feel more energy talking with strangers/servers where I would normally keep my head down and plod along. Perhaps I'm still on an ecstatic high, but it's powerful stuff if it can be harnessed!I know that January and February is generally kipper season in the taxi, so unless there's a large change in my personal life, I can envision doing this every year!
💻 A blog post I'm reading:One Powerful Lesson from a Legend | The Curiosity ChronicleThis is a great weekly newsletter, in this issue Sahil meets with marketing legend Gary Vaynerchuk. The one takeaway to success; “You’ve gotta love the dirt.”It’s similar to Chris Williamson’s frame; of “are you doing the thing?” The “thing” being actual work, or graft. Or as Gary V puts it, “the dirt”.“The dirt is where you start. It's where you're built. It's where you find your initial success. We all start in the dirt on the journey to success, but few are willing to remain there. Few fall in love with the dirt. The day you leave the dirt is the day the clock starts ticking down on your run.”
I know this too well, you make a few videos that do well. And then you are approached by multiple projects that pull you away from the one thing that drove the success. TV shoots, podcasts etc. This quote is a firm reminder, and leaves me incredibly excited to get back into the dirt, and stay in the dirt. The focus for my year is YouTube, making videos for the channel, editing videos for the channel and that’s that! Next upload is coming April 2024. I’m so excited to get this content machine rolling again (albeit scared of the level of sacrifices to be made again).
📔
What I'm reading:
Some of you will remember Scott Adam’s as the creator of Dilbert. He is also an exceptional thinker and writer. This most recent book doesn’t fall short of that expectation!
It lives up to the title and is packed with 160 powerful “reframes”. If you are going to believe in something then why not believe in a delusion that propels you in the direction you want, here’s a few examples from the blurb.
Usual Frame: Your critics are evil monsters.Reframe: Your critics are your mascots.
Usual Frame: The universe is acting against you.Reframe: The universe owes you.Usual Frame: Luck is random and can’t be managed.Reframe: You can go where there is more luck (more energy).
Reframe’s are everything and any success or positive force I have encountered in my life has been as a result of a reframe. So I’m excited to power through this book and arm myself with more life changing knowledge!
🎧
On heavy rotation:Chicken Shake - Stereo MC's
You’ll remember Stereo MC’s for their incredible “Connected” (I believe this was the hold music for BT cell net/mobile for a very long time), and just instantly takes me back to the 90’s.
Chicken Shake comes from that same album, it’s a wonderful chill piece, making me long for a version of the 90’s where this song might have come into my life!
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Please feel free to reach out to me with your; comments, concerns or just general conversation.
I'd love to know what you're up to or what you might be working on!
📝😁
Have a great week everyone!
