🗞 Tom's Sunday Summary - 11th June 2023
Hey , welcome back to
The Sunday Summary
, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.
💂🏻♀️ A London experience:2023 Parliamentary Taxi AwardsThis week I was honoured to be invited to parliament as a nominee. Apparently for my hard work sharing the industry to a younger demographic via YouTube. Was great to catch up with other nominees and learn of some fantastic achievements! Such as the cabbies who rowed the Atlantic, and a driver who ran his first marathon at the age of 70! I guess this doubles up as a London experience, as I got to enjoy the secluded spot of the pavilion terrace on the thames. I’ve always wanted to see London from there!
💂🏻♀️ Another London experience:Guildhall Art GalleryIt’s been a while since I’ve explored the whole gallery. Often I just nip in with tour groups to look at the remains of the Roman amphitheatre.Highlight for me, was the image of the Queen Elizabeth II coronation luncheon in the Guildhall. Painted by Terence CuneoI couldn’t find the hidden mouse, apparently a trait of his works. Since a mouse wandered into his gallery one day. If anyone knows where, I’d happily go back and have a look! And Flyover, St Peter's, London - Paul ButlerIt’s much more striking in the flesh! Under the Hammersmith flyover, and perspective is slightly shifted to include St Pauls Hammersmith (apparently the broadway blocks this view in real life). I may collate all my London experiences and post them online. Please let me know your thoughts and if there’s any particular aspect you’d find interesting? (Price, accessibility, new exhibitions etc).🎧 An audiobook I'm loving:
Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science Of Human Decisions - Brian Christian & Tom GriffithsI love mindsets and modalities that not only simplify my thinking, but make like more enjoyable or foster better habits as a result. I.e. I have a rule that is, no coffee after 3pm (albeit I should shift it back to midday). It’s backed by research, as well as improving sleep, and limiting my consumption of the black stuff, thereby making me value it more in the mornings. Well this book is helping me achieve the same across a range of areas in live. Such as, when should you explore vs exploit (trying new restaurants vs settling for a good one). How to decide on the best candidate for a job without getting too bogged down by the details, or even how to optimise finding a parking spot! I’ve got this on Kindle and Audible format, my speed hack for finishing books faster, especially deep dense topics like this.
