The Sunday Summary
Hey , welcome to the Sunday Summary, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.
What I’m listening to:"Learn German with Paul Noble" - Paul Noble. When I was studying The Knowledge of London, I always remarked upon the fact that it is similar to learning a language (despite the fact I only speak English).I've put off learning a second language time and time again due to the "real world" practicality of it, i.e; unless I live in Germany, when will I ever use it?But beginning of the year I finally bit the bullet and changed my mindset towards it, language isn't necessarily about speaking or conversing it on a daily basis, but having an appreciation for that culture.I picked German as it has a lot of ties with London, and English is a germanic based language (actually a hybrid of German, French and Latin in some ways).Just like learning London history, once you expose yourself you can start drawing parallels everywhere, such as the Strand. Strand is actually a German word for beach, as the Strand once bordered onto the river Thames, most likely a name given or inherited by the Anglo-Saxon settlers of the day. It's slow incremental growth but helps keep my mind active in the cabA new purchase:Sony ZV-1 I mentioned last week about a home studio set-up, so this week I bit the bullet and purchased a Sony ZV-1. I've been researching into this for months. It's a popular YouTube vlog camera for many of it's auto settings and astounding 4k visuals.I really appreciate everyone who tunes in and watch the channel so I feel it is my duty to create the highest quality content possible. Ironically enough it's actually making me go full circle (I graduated from university with a degree in Film & TV Production 12 years ago, nice to see I'm putting all that student debt to use haha!) Watch this space, there's plenty of in-depth vlog style videos to come. 😊 Insight from the cab:Friday night I picked up a gent from Waterloo who was struggling to get home to Romford (messed up trains). I was almost ready to go home so we struck a deal on a fixed price. On the journey it turned out he had a pretty rotten day, spent most of it travelling to see his daughter for her birthday and the messed trains completely ruined this. He was stressed and livid about the whole situation so I just wanted to put him at ease and let him know that he's being delivered right to the door, nothing to worry about. He then went on to say "oh if you can find a cash point on the way, I'll draw the money out for you".I let him know that it's not a problem and he can pay on card.I put myself in his shoes, if he has had a stressful day and just wants to get home, does he really want to get out of the cab and overcome another hurdle to get home? Not really? I wanted to make his journey as smooth and pleasant as possible, that's why he got a black cab, and that's why I'd much rather him pay via card.He absolutely loved there gesture, he even added a nice tip, we shook hands and he told me that even though it was an expensive way to get home, it was the most pleasant and enjoyable taxi ride he'd ever had.Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please feel free to reach out to me with your; comments, concerns or just general conversation. I'd love to know what you're up to or what you might be working on! 📝😁Have a great week everyone!Tom
