🗞 Tom's Sunday Summary - 13th November 2022

Hey , Welcome back to

The Sunday Summary

, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.

🙆🏼‍♂️ A lifestyle habit I'm trying out:Reducing my TV/Netflix exposureI don't really watch much TV as it is. But lately I've grown conscious the fact that when I do watch say; 2/3 episodes of a documentary series, it really is just like chewing gum.  Same format, you can interchange names and places (which I generally don't remember or care for anyway) and it's led to the conclusion that I don't get a lot of value from this kind of media anymore.I stripped back and minimised my media consumption when I was studying for The Knowledge, it's times like this that remind you of lifestyle creep and occasionally it needs reigning in.The hack. 1 hour of Netflix max per session, even then that will probably equate to 2 hours max a week.📖 A book I'm loving:Not Nice: Stop People People Pleasing, Staying Silent, & Feeling Guilty - Dr Aziz GazipuraI mean, just that title gripped me and sums me up perfectly. This book advocates that we should be “nice”. It’s not saying be a dick, but that defacto “nice” or agreeable isn’t that valuable in society.  People pleasing and always defaulting to nice for risk at being not liked.   To give more context where I feel this will fit into my life, something I’ve always interpreted as being a perfectionist is where I will do something, such as have a meeting or film a collaboration with someone. Then come away thinking “oh shouldn’t have said that” “that person probably didn’t like the way I said that”.  Even if the outcome was the best outcome, I’d still convince myself that something negative happened in the interaction.  I'll let you know more as I learn from this book.

🎙 A podcast episode I'm loving:Relationships 2.0: The Power of Tiny Interactions - (Hidden Brain:NPR)Another one on the theme of introversion. A great conversation featuring studies that cite that people gain more happiness and satisfaction from those peripheral “weak ties”. I.e that semi regular face who serves your morning Starbucks, those micro interactions that seem redundant but pepper our lives, can lead to greater satisfaction and happiness as a whole. This applies wether the person has a large and strong social network, or they would consider themselves more introverted and less social.🧪 An app I'm trying out:Rize - Maximize Your ProductivityThis is a productivity tracker for your computer. Breaking down by individual app, webpage and auto categorising into specific activities. The saying "What gets measured gets managed", so it's a way of being more conscious of my time, and rarely is sitting at my desk "just a quick 5 minute email"📺 New on YouTube this week:

Is This The BEST Job In The World?
