Hey , welcome back to
The Sunday Summary
, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.
🎙 A podcast I'm featured on:How black cab drivers memorise every road in London - Nudge PodcastThis week it was a pleasure to be featured on Nudge Podcast, one of the most popular business podcasts in the UK. It’s a fantastic podcast that delves into behavioural psychology, packaged in a short 30 minute episode, with real actionable tips, and all backed by science! In this episode, Phill probes me about The Knowledge and the science behind it, plus how he managed to improve his memory and learn every capital city in the world!🎥 Filming in London:Quality, Craftsmanship and Tradition - Kirby AllisonI also had the pleasure of filming with Kirby Allison. His channel explores the world of quality, craftsmanship, and tradition. And what humble profession combines those three elements? The London Taxi of course. I must say, Kirby lives and breathes quality and craftsmanship, even examining his choice of camera operators and equipment, he really leaves no stone unturned. Check out his channel for a dive on some of the finest establishments in London and the world. Here’s one of his popular videos inside of John Lobb shoes, St. James Street.
📖 A book that's changing how I see the world: Ultra-Processed People: Why Do We All Eat Stuff That Isn't Food ... And Why Can't We Stop? - Chris van Tulleken
This might end up being one of those game changing books like “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker. I’ve tried just about every diet over the years; Keto, Atkins, Low/slow carb, vegan, carnivore, juice diet etc. Low carb stuff very effective for weight loss, and everything else an effort to improve my day to day quality of life. However, not one seems truly effective or complete. There’s always something to be said, or an unhealthy aspect about each. They don’t seem conducive to being a natural human, but rather, some kind of hack. Enter; Ultra Processed People. It actually helps me to define what is “good” or “bad” food. As previously these kind of labels have been a bit wholly for me. Like for instance, baked beans? Are they ultra processed? Are they good? Are they bad? This book asks a lot of questions and explores from multiple angles. Is it that UPF (ultra processed foods) are bad in themselves?, or is it a down stream effect? i.e. the habits and knock on effects they produce? I love the author’s way of weaving the complex science stuff around a story that’s unfolding/progressing. Some sciencey books that share in-depth research and data very quickly become monotonous, but the story element of a humble walk along the regents canal, allows all this to flow naturally.
