🗞 Tom's Sunday Summary - 18th June 2023
Hey , welcome back to
The Sunday Summary
, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.
🇿🇦 🔋 A time to recharge:South AfricaMy girlfriend was born and has family within Johannesburg. Every once in a while it’s nice to come back, albeit during their winter (20c and blue skies ☀️). This time round, I managed to get to Cape Town (15c cloudy), which as it’s off season probably wasn’t the full Cape Town experience. However I did manage to visit Cape Point and a wonderful hike up Lion’s head! (picture below was the way up, you can see table mountain in the clouds in front. It was beautiful and makes me want to do more hiking! I also spotted this TX2 after completing the most beautiful Chapmans peak drive! It's not been all penguin chasing and hiking though, I've used the various air travel and stops to get ahead on my video scripting, hoping to level up future YouTube performance!🚕 A London podcast feature:Who is wizAnn? - WizAnn PodcastDean was ever so kind to invite me back to the WizAnn studios to feature on his podcast! I love their content and highly recommend subscribing! We talk about YouTube creation, where WizAnn came from etc.💂🏻♀️🚕 ⛔️ I will no longer be offering tours of London:Been on the fence with this for a while. I love geeking out about London and sharing it with everyone. I’ve had some great clients and met some wonderful people through extended tours in the taxi. It’s somewhat oxymoronic, because I come to London on days off to explore and see new things. And I love sharing this with people. However; constrain this to a date and a time, booked online at a price that is deemed fair for my services, and I really get anxious about the whole process. Seeing dates in the calendar, nervously waiting in arrivals, making sure the taxi is cleaned and prepped the day before. Wondering if I am delivering a good tour. I’ve even logged my cardiovascular strain after completing a tour and it’s through the roof! It’s similar to 2x intensive gym workouts! Whilst I know many people will have gained tremendous value from the tours, it’s not something that I get energised by, in fact because of the strain and associated activities to prepare, I find it actually takes a lot from me!So, eventual goal... I get a much clearer and uncluttered calendar to hopefully go bigger on YouTube! If I don’t succumb to Parkinsons Law (the idea that tasks take as long as the time you give them).📖 A book I'm loving:The Examined Life: How We Lose and Find Ourselves - Stephen GroszThe work of a psychoanalyst. This book is set in short chapters, each one forming a story from Grosz’s clinical practice. I love how each case lays out as a story, from the patients initial concerns, to final diagnosis or assessment of their condition. It’s fascinating to hear of how childhood trauma can manifest itself in a multitude of expressions. Serious page turner and super easy to digest!
📺 A YouTube video I'm loving:Geography Now! UNITED KINGDOM45 minutes of British geography, featuring Jay Foreman. Videos like this not only enthral me going over British history and how we have come to where we are today, but also perplex me. I still get hugely confused over all the definitions of Britain, such as overseas territories etc.Check it out!
📺 No upload this week:Logistical issues have meant that I couldn't get an upload out for yesterday. As a result you'll be likely to get 2 uploads before next weekend!
