🗞 Tom's Sunday Summary - 19th November 2023
Hey , welcome back to
The Sunday Summary
, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.
🚖 🏆 A taxi related award:Annual Good Service Award 2023 - The Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage DriversI was blown away by this. This is a new award sponsored by and received by Past Master Andrew Overton (that’s the O in M&O taxis), to celebrate the services of an individual within The WCHCD, whether that’s helping within the company or representing the trade as a whole. A huge honour as it was only 4 years previously within the same livery hall that I joined the company. I’m eager to see the company flourish as it’s a huge privilege to be one of the 110 liveries within the City of London. The WCHCD is always keen to take on new members from all areas of the taxi trade (I believe this can extend to hackney’s outside of London). Do drop me a message if you’d like to know more!It was also a huge honour to be sat next to Mike Hughes who received the Charity Award for Exceptional Care, for his selfless dedication to Poppy Cabs. Great to converse with him and learn that he actually did The Knowledge twice! Incredible!
⛔️ One road gained, several lost 😔:CheapsideA street with lost during covid-19; Cheapside, is now once again accessible for taxis (experimental scheme). Unfortunately due to the restrictions that surround it, there’s only a handful of use cases as to when you’d really want to use it. The main one is that following 7pm or at weekends, you can get a straight line from Leadenhall street all the way through to Newgate street which is satisfying!
The bad news is. We have lost access to Upper Ground by the National Theatre (making the traffic on Stamford street indescribably bad, thanks Lambeth!). Lloyds Avenue in the city, an essential route for dropping into the back of Trinity Square or wiggling your way down to Tower Bridge. As well as Princes Street for Bank Junction. It’s all disastrous, and I’m hoping to make a video highlighting it all as well as numerous other closures. I just need some kind of engaging angle (other than just a cabbie ranting about it).📖 🎧 An audio book I'm loving:Brief Answers to the Big Questions: the final book from Stephen HawkingThis is a bit of an in-depth listen, but not as unattainable as I thought. As 90% of my reading sits within the self improvement/life skills realm. I thought I’d branch out a bit. Always inspired by Naval Ravikant that no book in the library should be intimidating.
“No book in the library should scare you. Whether it’s a math, physics, electrical engineering, sociology, or economics book. You should be able to take any book down off the shelf and read it. A number of them are going to be too difficult for you. That’s okay—read them anyway. Then go back and reread them and reread them." Naval Ravikant
Gradually broadening my horizons over time creates a much richer existence, being able to understand and appreciate the everyday beauty that surrounds us.
🐥 A Tweet I'm loving:
Being busy is a form of laziness—lazy thinking and indiscriminate action. Being busy is most often used as a guise for avoiding the few critically important but uncomfortable actions.
I’ve let the word “busy” slip back into my vernacular. You can have a lot of plates spinning, but try not to say you are busy. It denotes that your life is chaotic and that you haven’t got a grip on it!🥬 🥛 A new sponsor:AG1 by Athletic Greens - Foundational Nutrition SupplementI'm super excited to be partnering with AG1 as it provides a huge nutritional insurance to my sometimes less than optimum diet. It's quickly become a morning ritual that I look forward to everyday, just 1 scoop with 350ml of cold water ensures I get vitamins, minerals, pre and probiotics, antioxidants and digestion support. No more faffing around with pill containers or having to keep the cupboard stocked constantly. It's backed by so many of my heroes in the online world such as; Dr Andrew Huberman, Joe Rogan and numerous sporting legends. To clarify this is a convenient supplement you can add to your existing diet to help achieve foundational nutrition.Using my link AG1 will give you a years supply of Vitamin D3 and K2 + 5 Free Travel Packs! Highly recommended.
