Sunday Sum - 20th August 2023

🗞 Tom's Sunday Summary - 20th August 2023

Hey , welcome back to

The Sunday Summary

, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week

📖 💂🏻‍♀️ A London book I'm reading:101 London Oddities - J. Edward HartI managed to get a copy of the incredibly rare and now out of print 101 London Oddities by J.Edward Hart.  Published in 1994 this book was said to have inspired some of the Penton street examiners on some of the obscure points that were asked; small st Pauls to the jelling stone.  I hope to cover items it features in a new format (see below).

📺 🎬 A new video format I'm working onPOV London Driving & GuidingWhat I dislike about my shift video format is that due to restrictions of filming whilst working, I have to include history and interesting observations retrospectively.  Covering it in the edit.   There’s so many nuances I want to point out live, which just doesn't come across afterwards. So I will be bring a new format to the channel, effectively a first person view of London.  Starting very early morning on a weekend, I will drive around a particular part of the capital.  Parking the cab at various locations to be able to go out and get closer to the history. It will be similar to the practice of pointing we had to do on The Knowledge.I think it will have an advantage over some of the walking guides on YouTube as it will physically link the points of interest to one another, so you as the viewer will be able to create the relationships in London (if you don’t already know it).I’d love for you all to get behind it and share it when it’s live (I’ll let you know in this Sunday summary).  Should be in the coming weeks. I’m also hoping that as it’s less of a heavy lift in the edit, I will be able to get more of them out 😊

💂🏻‍♀️🎬 Researching a future video:London Rivers!I’m going off piste with a future idea. I want to share some of the hidden and lesser known rivers of London 🦦. I'm eager to find portions that are a maximum of 6 feet wide. It will become clear in the video.   But all rivers… Lea, Wandle, etc and even the Thames!  If you have expertise here, I’d love to hear from you!  Alternatively I might need to give John Rogers an email!!📺 A YouTube rabbit hole I fell into:The Simpsons 'No-No Sheets’ - Kid Leaves StoopStarting with a few frames from the intro of season 1, this video is a full exploration into the rules and principles that make The Simpsons animation so iconic!  It’s wonderful story telling and editing also, had me hooked for the whole 23 minutes. I then naturally watched the “‘Malcolm in the Middle’ mystery solved after 20 years". Because it used to be on directly after The Simpsons of course.  This was also fascinating!Sidenote: It’s strange. In my adult and professional life, I feel like I will never be able to “justify” watching cartoons again (despite it being a huge part of my childhood).  However I am more than accepting of watching a video that provides an analytical breakdown of a cartoon?  It’s weird how I now gear my brain to educational rather than entertainment.
