🗞Tom's Sunday Summary - 23rd April 2023
Hey , welcome back to
The Sunday Summary
, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.
💂🏻♀️ A London experience:Roof Garden - The Post BuildingIt’s only 9 floors up, but this free Central London roof garden is pretty spanning of the views it offers! My highlight is being able to see the spire of Hawkmoor’s St Georges Bloomsbury, often very difficult to see at street level. You can also see directly into The British Museum! It’s free to visit, the entrance is on the New Oxford Street side. Just look for the double glass doors with an A4 sign that says “Roof garden”. 10:00 - 7pm.I’ve just read a post on IanVisits, and whilst the space has to accessible to the public for 20 years (orders of Camden Council), there’s a clause in the agreement with the property developer, whereby the building owner can reduce the opening hours if it’s not being used that much. So get yourself along and enjoy the remarkable view! I will be covering it in a future video.💂🏻♀️📖 A London book I'm loving:London: A Life in Maps - Peter WhitfieldIt’s London… and it’s maps.. say no more! I’m always astounded at how accurate ancient maps of London are, way before tall buildings, planes or drones! My highlight of this book so far is Wren’s proposed plan of the City of London post-great fire. He drew the plans with days of the end of the fire! It includes the reason as to why this didn’t go ahead, but I won’t spoil the detail for you!
🎧 An audio book to think about your health:
I’ve been listening to a lot of health podcasts as of late, Dr. Peter Attia has been promoting his new book that has taken 6 years to compile! Outlive focuses on health span apposed to lifespan. The difference? Lots of people live to their 70’s and 80’s but the final decade of their lives might be riddled with complications or long term diseases that are detrimental to health. People might live longer but their quality of living is diminishing. Attia’s book proposes the idea of health 3.0, preventing the “four horsemen” of health span killers, as posed to the current model, of fixing people once they have succumbed to these diseases. Often by this time it’s too late as decades of bad health decisions have led to this.
In short, it's not a book about living longer. It's a book about remaining in better health throughout your older ages, and the strategies to ensure that remains the case!
📺 No upload this week unfortunatelyMOT, taxi overhaul and a few other things have left my week spinning! Fingers crossed next week!
