🗺 Everyday is a school day:A slightly different route in LondonI was hailed near The Worlds End PH on Kings Road this week. The customer wanted to go to Sabine Road, Battersea. I somehow managed to pull it (Sabine is quite a distinct name I guess). Instantly lining up my decision to take Battersea bridge, I confidently head eastbound and sit in the right turn for Beaufort Street. They shout from the back “Oh take Old Church Street and do a right onto the Chelsea Embankment”. Taking Old Church Street, they bark; “I usually turn right at the pub”. This whole exchange neatly cuts out Beaufort street which at “going home time”, backs up quite considerably. It’s an interesting and effective interpretation which I can honestly say I’ve never done in the 5 years of driving a cab!🦷 A new gadget:Ultrasonic Teeth Cleaning KitI have a few problem teeth that seem to be a magnet for tartar build up. Ever since university I’m pretty OCD on my dental hygiene (I can’t sleep or begin my day if I haven’t brushed). At the dentist it’s the usual, “yep, everything is fine, just a little bit of tartar, book in with the hygienist”. I don’t begrudge paying for the dentist because after all, teeth are pretty important. It’s more the fact I’d like to be able to control this myself.  I thought it would be a bit of a gimmick (I’m a sucker at buying £20 gimmicks that don’t work), but it’s honestly like magic. I have no idea how Ultrasonic works but you just brush it over the problem tartar and it gradually works away at it.🎧 An audiobook I'm listening to:Hooked: Addiction and the Long Road to Recovery - Paul Merson”Paul Merson's wonderfully moving and brutally honest memoir of battling addiction for three decades.”

I’m not a football fan. But I was gripped by Merson’s; “Gambling and Me” documentary. On my own sober journey, it is powerful to understand triggers and mindsets of other people, even if their addictions are entirely different. As he puts it, gambling is a hidden addiction. Hooked is an expose into how his addictions crept into his life as a professional footballer, and the lengths he went to hide it.
