šļø Tom's Sunday Summary - 28th August 2022

Hey , Welcome back to
The Sunday Summary
, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.
š I'm proud to be part of:The 2022 Children's Magical Taxi Tour - Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage DriversIn its 27th year of the tour since itās inception, it is the journey of a lifetime for terminally ill children and their families. A convoy of 100 taxis will leave London, headed for Disneyland Paris. If you wish to see the taxis leaving, this will be early morning on Friday 16th September from Canary Wharf. Alternatively the A2 will be a major route if you wish to see the taxis headed for the channel tunnel. Iām quite excited and will be sharing more on this in the future, potentially a video also. It is a huge logistical operation organised by the WCHCD with support from; breakdown staff, carers, police convoy, ferry operators, insurers etc amongst many other individuals. If you wish to donate to the charity, the link is listed here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/chcd-charity-trustš° I'm currently reading:Keep Going - Austin KleonI first heard of these series of books from Ali Abdaal (YouTuber). Aimed for creative individuals each book tackles 3 areas that supposedly plague anyone in a creative field. Keep Going is rather apt to how Iām feeling on the YouTube channel right now. Not a week goes by where Iām not thinking about; āShould I still be doing this?ā āThis is repetitiveā āIs my channel decliningā etc. Donāt worry, Iām not going anywhere, but these are just anxious doubts that always fill my mind (in any venture). This book has quite literally kept me going. It is a short and small book and evocative of the kind of playful books you got as a kid, great to quickly glance at for 5 minutes between work.š An audio book I'm listening to:Lost Connections: Uncovering the Real Causes of Depression - and the Unexpected Solutions - (Johann Hari)Having listened to multiple podcasts and pieces that cite this book, I took the plunge and it has been a highly engaging listen. What instantly gripped me was the argument against the idea that depression is āa chemical imbalanceā or ālack of serotoninā in the brain. And listening to the data, itās very easy to understand how this language and idea proliferates the minds of the many.Get your free trial of Audible hereš An article I found interesting:The last phone boxes: broken glass, cider cans and ā amazingly ā a dial tone - Sophie Elmhirst (The Guardian)This was really informative for me. When I conduct tours with Americanās one the first questions to come up is āare the phoneboxes still in use?ā I usually let them know about how many of them have been reappropriated into an accessible defribulator, coffee shop or mobile phone repair shop. This article not only digs into the savvy entrepeuner who bought up many of the lucrative phone boxes in desirable locations, but also how many phone calls are still made (a number in the millions!). Well worth a read.š¹ New On YouTube this week:
