🗞 Tom's Sunday Summary - 29th October 2023

Hey , welcome back to

The Sunday Summary

, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.

💂🏻‍♀️🚦My ambitious London project just got longer!:The No Traffic Lights ChallengeI’ve been working on a no lights traffic route across London for sometime.  Basically, is it possible to get around all 22 boroughs featured on The Knowledge without using traffic lights (not including pedestrian crossings).  In short, it’s impossible.  But introducing the concept of a “traffic light pass” which each borough gives to me when I visit that borough.  Thereby I can save up multiple traffic light passes and spend them in more tricky boroughs *AHEM* Hackney *AHEM*.I started filming last week, beginning in Richmond, I managed to get all the way to Brent, but a couple of streets that I hadn’t mapped properly yielded an emergency barrier and an LTN.  As the whole challenge has pretty much no slack in it, it was a trip back home to try and find slack elsewhere in the route.  Only to find even more errors in the route!  I’m very close and on the cusp of completing it, at least it’s not been an easy victory and the hero has been on a journey.  If you like your storytelling arc’s at least!🎮 An addictive London game (free):Memory Metro - London Tube Memory GameI managed to recall 50% of tube stations fairly quickly before I realised I was procrastinating from work!  Would love to know what scores you get!I’d highly recommend doing it on a desktop, I started on a mobile and became frustrated at how long it took me to input text.  Also remember that it wants the full name of the stop, i.e. just “Kings Cross” won’t cut it.

📺 A YouTube Channel I stumbled upon:Sample Breakdown: Futurama Theme Song - TracklibI've always been fascinated with samples from songs, https://www.whosampled.com being a great resource for any catchy song and you wonder where the original comes from.Tracklib breaks down lots of famous songs, primarily from the hip hop genre, but an interesting one was this breakdown of the Futurama Theme Tune! I mean it’s bloody obvious in hindsight that there’s an amen break in there! But I guess you just gloss over it.  But to find Rappers delight by Sugarhill gang in there was mind-blowing!🌳 🌿 A beautiful walk:Hatfield Park Forest Walk - Hatfield HouseI caught up with a friend and went on a walk in the beautiful Hatfield Park at Hatfield House.  This is where they also hold the Slam Dunk South Festival that I attended earlier this year, so it was quite fun trying to visualise exactly where the stages were in the empty field!I had a tough week previously, and this walk made me have the realisation that a lot of my problems or mental loops occur when I’m stuck in the past or the future.  Dwelling on the past (the less common occurrence for me) can evoke sadness/depression whilst gazing too far into the future can create anxieties as you are trying to control outcomes that haven’t manifested. The antidote. As cliche as it sounds, bring yourself back to the present. A walk in nature itself is incredibly vigorating, just putting one foot in front of the other with lots of sensory stimuli.  But also aided with a conversation ensures you can’t stray too far into the past or future, as your friend will always pull you back on track!🙋🏼‍♂️ A meet and greet with me?:A talk on The KnowledgeI'm just putting the feelers out there...The biggest aim of my YouTube is to get more passengers in taxis and more students on The Knowledge.  I love the London Taxi trade and what is has offered my life.So I'm looking into the idea of a meet and greet.  Largely aimed for Knowledge students (any level, from not even started, to those on appearances).  What being a taxi driver is like, how to study on The Knowledge etc.It will be based in Central London.  If you are interested I'd love to know if there's a particular time that works best for you, weekday evening or a weekend?  Tea and coffee and I'd imagine it will be free to attend!📺 On Youtube this week:
