Sunday Sum - 2nd Oct 2022

🗞️ Tom's Sunday Summary - 2nd October 2022

Hey , Welcome back to

The Sunday Summary

, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.

💂🏻‍♀️ A London experience:Novelty Automation - Princeton Street, Holborn WC1This has been on my list for far too long. It’s next door to popular cabbie cafe Beck’s.  What I could only describe as homemade arcade machines. It has a wonderful charm about it, a wide variety of experiences to actual skill games. Many award a small token prize or souvenir which just adds to the individual charm of this place. A one of a kind, I highly recommend it.💂🏻‍♀️ Another London experience:Mail Rail - The Postal MuseumThis was a fun one. I love underground experiences in London as my brain is always trying to reorient itself despite not having any physical features.  The actual experience in terms of light projections, audio and visual was superb.  The museum was a great visit afterwards, and I picked up a lot of new info and insight.  Pricey for what it is, but a unique experience in London.📺 A video that resonated with me:The Unexpected Price of Success - Mark Manson (YouTube)It’s the idea that initially creating content has to be outrageous, new and daring to get established, then once established it effectively was just repeating the recipe of what works.  It similar to audience capture (something I’m genuinely terrified of), the idea that you become known for one kind of content, and any attempts to deviate from it leaves your audience bewildered, forcing creators to go the way of their audience, whether that’s in line with their values and achievements.

📃 An article that changed my perceptions:Am I the “Productivity Guy?” - Ali AbdaalI must confess, I watch a lot of “productivity” content.  I look up to these YouTubers and I would be lying if I told you that I didn’t want to have a productivity YouTube channel. As alluded to in this writing, some creators hate the idea of being boxed into a category.  Not that it’s inherently bad, but it means that you are constricted in your creative endeavours.  “Oh you was the taxi guy, now you’re the bike guy?”. Ali includes a great quote from Jeff Bezo’s.“Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.”

At times I have often felt; I want to work hard in the taxi, make taxi videos on YouTube, so I can one day make videos pertaining to creativity and other pursuits in life I enjoy. Taxi driving is just my job and it’s not scalable.  I’ve had it all wrong, “The London Taxi Guy” is exactly what I need to lean into, have skin in the game, strengthen my already strong knowledge on the subject. I work in London, I go to London on my days off, I lay in bed thinking about the map, routes and new ways of conquering problems.  I subscribe to TfL emails informing me of the latest road closures. I swot up on them like studying for an examination.  This is my pursuit. This is my vibe.  This is what I enjoy doing.  It’s what I want to share with you all and hopefully generate that love and passion for you all.📹  In the works:There’s a lot of content in the can that’s just in the edit process.  Some new types of content too.  Here’s what you have to look forward to in the coming weeks.

  • Tuesday (of my week shift)

  • Disneyland - Magical Taxi Tour (120 taxis convoy to Paris)

  • Paddington vs Euston, what makes a taxi rank so bad?
