The Sunday Summary - 31st July 2022

Sunday Summary from Tom the Taxi Driver

Hey , Welcome back to my Sunday Summary, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.

💂‍♂️ A (bad) London experience:

Terminal 4 drop-off chargeYep, I’ve been caught. A nice fine courtesy of APCOA who manage Heathrow parking and drop off. Annoyingly, I didn’t pay as I believe the charge at T4 hadn’t started, I saw a sign on exit saying “Charge live from 01/07/22”. I must have assumed we were still in June and totalling forgot about it. More annoyingly, I didn’t charge the customer the £5.20 drop off either for this reason! At £40.00, it’s not worth submitting an appeal. You might say; “Tom, why didn’t you have autopay set-up”.   Well, as I sometimes rank at Heathrow, I was concerned that we as cabbies have to pass through the T3 drop off to join the T3 rank.  So I was worried about Heathrow sneaking the odd £5 out of my account.

Lesson learnt, I’ve now set-up autopay.🚕 A taxi feature:TAXI Magazine - LTDA

The Licensed Taxi Drivers Association (LTDA) are doing weekly features of characters and individuals within the taxi trade, they reached out to me and kindly featured me this week’s edition of TAXI. You can find the full article on pages 22/23.

Back issues of other drivers available HERE🧹 A product that's changing my life:Eufy RoboVac (11S Slim)My girlfriend and I have been toying with the idea of one of these for a while. Both working professionals, household cleaning falls fairly low on our priorities (admittedly very low on mine). This was the cheapest, but most effective “dumb” (doesn’t map your house or have an app connected) vacuum we came across.  But wow what a game changer!I’m still in awe at how much dust it picks up on a daily basis, this was what is got from a 1 hour spin around our already cleaned 1 bedroom flat!*I used to be obsessed with robots when I was younger, (Real Robots Magazine, Robot Wars, and TechnoGames were all heavily consumed!) 10 year old me is still in absolute awe at this thing. Crazy to believe that this is consumer technology now!*

📱 An app I'm loving:Castro Podcast PlayerI’ve been an avid user of Overcast for my podcasts. Just for ease of how it queues episodes, automatic downloads and removals, great UI, and custom speed playback. But Castro goes one step further, being able to reorder your playback, having an inbox where you sort podcasts before playing, and even the feature to cut the first couple of minutes off, customisable for each podcast. I paid for their premium (which at £2.99 a month, for how much I consume podcasts is an absolute steal!)
