🗞Tom's Sunday Summary - 5th March 2023

Hey , welcome back to

The Sunday Summary

, a collection of insights and my behind the scenes from the past week.

🩳 My new boxer shorts!:Step One - Men and Women's bamboo underwearNo sponsorship or affiliation here.Long time Calvin Klein lover, these boxers are slowly replacing all my CK briefs one by one. I initially thought that these were for specifically larger guys, but one pair was enough to convince me of the benefits.  They are light, breathable, comfortable, don’t wedgie easily, perfect for longs stints driving in the cab.  I genuinely am upset for the days when these are in the wash and I’ve only got my old calvins in the drawer.💭 An app I'm getting back into:Waking Up - A new operating system for your mind (Sam Harris)Mental clutter and chatter.I think it's something we all struggle with, it's something I want to get better at, to stop the hamster-wheeling of thoughts in the mind. The Waking Up App goes one further; it's about changing the way we interface with the world, the very experience of consciousness.  I noticed significant improvements last time I did the course for a period of time. I'm now back on it and carving it into my routine. It has a free 7 day trial, no credit card card required.  I'm not sponsored by it or an affiliate.💷 A blog post I'm pondering:The California Effect - Mr. Money MoustacheI sometimes slightly begrudge the idea of my job being based in London.  Yes I benefit from the increased work/demand of being in a busy capital. But respectfully I have to always be in London.  Either living there or commuting there. This blog post provoked a few thoughts, particularly the quote; “This is just a high cost of living area so it’s impossible to get ahead”.I like it because it's a fatalistic dogma that many will fall guilty of saying, especially in London. Pete (Mr. Money Moustache), goes on to explain that it's just a conditioning as accepting a particular bubble as a normal.  It's an inspiring read!🎙 A podcast I'm loving:Modern Wisdom #587 - Rory Sutherland - 19 Of Human Behaviour's Weirdest QuirksWith Rory Sutherland, I am drawn to every word.  Such a pronounced and concise thinker. A great example from this conversation was his experience driving electric cars and how he belives it makes driving (particuarly slowing down, due to regen braking) a more enjoyable experience.  This is course is opposite to cyclists who do everything they can to preserve intertia and energy, as the cost of regenerating their propulsion is much higher and less attractive.  It got me thinking into ways that roads could be designed to allow cyclists to sustain their speed and carry their momentum. Making for more efficient journeys and everyone happier as a result.Coming soon on the channel:I'm planning more food centric content, as the last one was such a hit; The 5 BEST Place to Eat in LondonI'll also be delving into "cabbie etiquette" check out WizAnn's episode on this if you want a warm-up.I will also be sharing some London cabbie slang. But for now, if you haven't checked it out already, please see my latest shift video below!
