🚕 Taxi Driving vs University, 🥧 Pie and mash club and 🚦 Lime's "red light tax"
Hey everyone, welcome back to the Sunday summary!
📰 A big London feature
University? No thanks, I’m becoming a black-cab driver - The Times (paywalled)
This was a bit of an accidental one. Paul from HP Taxis was contacted along with some newer entrants to the taxi trade. This article gave me chills as it was some of the new entrants who cited my videos as being a source of inspiration for them to get into the trade. It made me realise that I'm slightly old hat now. I've also realised that one of the main aims of my YouTube channel has come to fruition.
Extra bonus, Ben Smith featured in my YouTube Christmas special if you didn’t see it
🎙️ Cab chat is now live!
The Cab Chat Show | The Taxi Trades Premier Podcast
It's available in video [YouTube] and audio, and I'm pleased to announce that it will be available weekly. Please be sure to subscribe!
A couple of things to mention: we've reinstated the Pie Mash Club and as well as the Fish and Chips Club. Both are individual casual get togethers, six times a year each.
First Pie and Mash Club: Manze’s on Tower Bridge Road middday Monday, the 26th of January.
Fish and Chips Club will meet Monday, the 23rd of February, Kennedys of Goswell Road, evening (time tbc)
📺 Another taxi feature
Marks Taxi Diaries
This week I was guest run caller on Mark's Taxi Diaries. I initially came up with this idea a little while ago, spurred on by the fact that my map segments have very high retention. At one point, I almost considered getting a hand model or someone good-looking to do the map sections of my video to further increase this retention. I would like to invite guest cab drivers or people to come and draw on the map if they're up for it!
However, Mark has beaten me to the post inviting me to be the caller on his run in his recent shift video.
💷 🚴♀️ The 20% “Lime Tax” on stopping at red lights
London Centric first made me aware of this. (It's a fantastic publication, by the way, if you want to get some cool, gritty news about London.)
So much so, someone has actually generated an app which gives you the price difference of hiring a Lime bike where you stop at red lights vs. not stopping at red lights. It seems absolutely backwards that we can have a hire bike rental system that actively encourages people to jump red lights because of a pay per minute pricing!
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I'd love to know what you're up to or what you might be working on!
Have a great week!
Tom
