The Sunday Summary

🚕 Licence saver, 📖 Slow Productivity and 🐌 a new upload cadence

Hey everyone! Welcome back to the Sunday summary!

🚕 Licence saver

This week’s newsletter is sponsored by OOONO

I’ve been using their Co-Driver NO2 for the past couple of months on every shift. It’s been a game-changer for London’s 20mph zones, especially with how reliably it picks up mobile speed cameras - it takes a lot of the paranoia and anxiety out of driving in the city. OOONO has sold over 4 million units in Germany alone!

I used to rely on cabbie WhatsApp groups or a satnav for speed camera updates, but both can be distracting. With the NO2, the alerts come through in great time, and it’ll even warn me instantly if I turn onto a road with a camera right there. I don’t need to turn it on or set anything up - it automatically connects every time I get in the cab and runs quietly in the background. You can even double-tap to report hazards to other drivers. And importantly, it’s a one-time purchase - no subscription fees!

With over 300,000 motorists caught breaking 20mph limits in London last year alone - a 34% increase on the previous year, having this device is essential!

OOONO offers two models:

  • CO-DRIVER NO1 – £44.99 (solid entry-level option)

  • CO-DRIVER NO2 – £69.99 (the one I personally recommend for cab drivers and anyone driving regularly as it pools data from millions of other users)

It’s available in Halfords and on Amazon, and would make an ideal Christmas gift — either for yourself or the driver in your life.

P.S. If you’re quick, the Cyber Monday deal (38% off the NO2!) ends Midnight Monday 1st December.

Part time Knowledge of London Examiner
I'm super tempted to go for this one. But my online activity is probably a conflict of interest, who knows?
I share it with cab drivers in my audience who this might be suitable for. Judging by the pay (£24,000 or £40k pro-rata), it's either 3 days a week or possibly week on week off, as I know that's how they used to do part-time examiners. Obviously prerequisites are that you need to have completed the Knowledge of London! There are 2 positions available.

📺 A London taxi video I’m watching

Inside The Knowledge: London’s Black Cab Test
This really brings it all back, super well produced, and combines the expert knowledge with an engineering solution.

📖 A book I’m loving

Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout - Cal Newport
This is very timely. A simple thesis, but really makes the case for how doing less equals much greater output. It's the reason why I was able to do so much more on YouTube in the beginning days, not just because motivation was higher, but because my workload was much less. How even now with systems in place, such as editors, I seem more overwhelmed than ever. This video is an excellent treatise on the book.

My own cadence - slowing down
You might have noticed That my upload cadence isn't quite as regular as it has been previously. A big part of this is I'm juggling so many tasks involving other shoots and obligations. So much so, just the basic notion of getting a video out weekly is practically impossible.

In line with my reading above, Slow Productivity. I can't wait to strip there and just go back to my old school ways. Obviously this does require a lot of “no’s”, which is incredibly difficult when you've dreamed of having some of these opportunities at your doorstep. Stay tuned, as even this email is a bit of a weekly distraction.

How this will likely look in the new year, is just focus on one video a month (minimum). Those will be the shift videos.
Any additional videos will just be released ad hoc, rather than trying to cram them in weekly. My thinking here is that I want to have bigger projects that span multiple weeks, maybe even months, and then I can release something more hard-hitting rather than just trying to crank something small out every single week.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I'd love to know what you're up to or what you might be working on!

Have a great week!

Tom
