The Sunday Summary

🌳 Hampstead, 💷 Types of wealth and 🏴‍☠️ Hidden London tunnels

🎥 The joy of filming

This week I was in Hampstead filming a new YouTube video. Normally I have an endless stack of ideas, scripts, and potential videos I can shoot. But if I'm completely honest, going out and filming is the bit I enjoy least, maybe because it's entirely solo. I did use to have a videographer. This made the process less daunting because there was a level of accountability— i.e., you hire a videographer and they travel to London, you better show up otherwise you've wasted that person's time, as well as your own money!

Often when I film, I feel like I'm being a nuisance or a hindrance to people around me. As though someone's going to tap me on the shoulder and say "you can't film here". Stupid really because everyone's just going about their own life and probably couldn’t give a toss about what I do. Some of it is imposter syndrome also. Who am I to be standing on a street holding up a camera talking about some nonsensical topic?

My aim when filming is to get in, get out - the sooner I finish filming, the sooner I can go to work and chill. But something different happened in Hampstead. Maybe it was because it was a little bit quieter, maybe because the weather was nice. Who knows? But something I haven't had for a while - whereby I felt compelled to go back and get more exciting shots that I would've normally just given up on. Hopefully you'll see this in the edit. It was a fun feeling, and hopefully this can translate over into future projects.

This feeling of angst whilst filming, isn't me claiming burn out or slowing down on the channel. I find production on the streets very draining, even back in my university production days this was the case. I think I’m more suited to coming up with novel ideas and concepts and trying to link it all together. Who knows? Maybe in the future I can get some wicked camera crew to help with production!

📚 An audiobook I’m loving

I derive a bit too much value from my work and YouTube, so much so that when I have days off, it's hard to actually think about what I'm actually doing it all for. This book has been a powerful reframe for me. The wealth score quiz has been a great way to visualise where I'm excelling and failing in various parts of life. It's a great way of trying to observe stuff that doesn't have a built-in metric, i.e. social connections, are far harder to quantify than physical health.

📺 A Video I’m watching

Underground Tunnels + London + Epic video production = Awesome.  Great work by Faultline on this one.

🎥 Upcoming from me

I’ve filmed and edited a video about beating The London Congestion Charge by driving through it (not around). Still a bit contentious on releasing this one. 😬

In the edit is the very nice drive around Hampstead mentioned above. I pick out some of the hidden gems I learnt from my time on the Camden guide course back in 2019/2020. Some beautiful shots from my new DJI Action cam, watch it on the big screen! Very similar vibes to this West End video a couple of years back.

📺 On YouTube this week

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I'd love to know what you're up to or what you might be working on!

Have a great week!
