TSS - 🥊 Speed bag, 🗄️ Office conversion, and ☀️ Summer hobbies

The Sunday Summary

Hey everyone, and welcome back to the Sunday summary!

I’m safely back from NYC 🗽and can’t wait to share the wonderful footage with you all. Here is a sneak preview of what was filmed.

1. Deep dive on the New York taxi system (how does it all work in comparison to London?)
2. Where do NYC cabbies eat?
3. Can a London cabbie navigate NYC? (spoiler, it goes horribly wrong).

Here’s some other bits from this week

🥊 I want this to be my new hobby

Jaw Dropping Speed Bag Ball Skills Alan Kahn
The gym in our hotel in NYC had a speed bag in the basement. I’ve tried a speed bag once and found it incredibly difficult. Over the course of a couple of days and about 2 hours total, my videographer and I were able to actually get some kind of rhythm going. Not to the extent of this video of course, but still something progressive. This was highly addictive!

🗄️ I’ve finally got an office and studio again

Home office conversion
I’ve had a temporary desk, and various studio back drops in the past few months (you might have seen the corner of my lounge, and then the wood panelling in the old office).
Now I’m glad to have a permanent solution!

🛜 A gadget that’s surprised me

TP-Link AV1000 Powerline adapter
Whilst having the garage converted, I completely overlooked getting internet inside of it.
Of course, the correct option would have been a really long ethernet cable.
Triaging my available options, the first and easiest solution was a “power line” adapter.
If you are unaware of how these work, you have a special plug adapter that your router plugs into (in the house) and is able to send the internet signal through the electrical rings in the house. You then plug in a receiver (which then sends out its own wifi signal in the new area).

I was worried this wouldn’t work as the garage conversion is powered from an unused cooker ring. And the router is on a separate ring. But surprisingly I’m still achieving 56mbps down and 26mbps up.

💭 An idea that’s freeing

Pick-up a hobby just for summer
I’ve had lots of hobbies and fads over the years. But it always feels dejecting when you start something, get into it, and then it drops off (as nearly everything eventually does).
The Art of a Great Summer by Speeed shares a banger, in that your should have a hobby just for summer. That way there’s no expectation that it will continue, you’re probably more likely to enjoy it knowing that there’s a limited window of doing this activity.

📺🤫 An honest confession of the YouTube channel

It’s expensive
2025 I worked pretty hard on the YouTube channel. I had a lot of sponsors, and I had a lot of videos.
But… some of these video were quite quick to make, just to keep up with the expected demand of “You need to publish a video once a week!”.
As production levels have risen (videographer, editors) it’s quite difficult to quickly film and edit videos. Especially alongside actually working in the taxi.
So much so, there is a need for sponsors (and only sponsors of products I actually want to use).

But I want to make strong videos, with powerful messaging and unforgettable narratives.
These naturally take a bit more time. A bit more production value. And of course, a bit more money.

So rather than having a sponsor, then making the content to stick a sponsor on.
I’m doing it the other way around!
Content and production first. Sponsor second.

As a result, my upload schedule might be a bit more sporadic, but I’d much rather this, as it means the content is much more aligned with what I want to promote and share with you all.

Shift videos will remain exactly the same, and sponsored by yfood so no changes there. This message is more aimed at my short film/documenting style content.

Just thought I’d share with you, the exclusive bunch, as it’s a huge privilege to be in your inbox each week! Thanks again!
